Major Larry J. Bauguess, Jr., was a positive role model, student, and baseball player in Wilkes Central High School's class of 1989, as well as a devoted father, husband, son, brother, and friend. His life was cut short while serving in Afghanistan on May 14th, 2007 by a sniper's bullet.

Our mission is to preserve Larry's memory through the baseball field that bears his name; The Major Larry J. Bauguess, Jr. Memorial Field at Wilkes Central High School in North Carolina, which was so named on August 4th, 2008. An official dedication ceremony for the field occurred in Spring 2009.

To ensure that the field and any momument that is erected in his honor is taken care of in perpetuity, an endowment fund has been started to allow the field; to be maintained and improved upon for the future.

The endowment will also will provide for scholarships to one male and one female student at WCHS that exhibits the core character traits which were embodied by Major Bauguess and that are encouraged in all of our students by the Wilkes County School System: Responsibility, Respect, Self-Discipline, Kindness, Good Judgment, Perseverance, Courage, and Integrity.

Please explore this website to learn more about Larry, his love of baseball, and his many accomplishments. Please contribute to the fund and help his memory continue through his love of this game.
